Offering knowledge in what mental health is and what it looks in young people, why young people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health.

Course Overview
By learning how to correctly define mental health the course then highlights how to indicate understanding of the stigma surrounding mental health.
The course provides knowledge in how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition. Learning the appropriate advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition and when to contact the emergency services in respect of first aid for mental health.
They will be able to recognise and identify signs of stress and learn strategies on how to manage stress.
Upon completing this course participants will know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions. Being able to identify signs and/or symptoms for the following mental health conditions:

Depression

Anxiety

Psychosis
-
Eating disorders
-
Suicide
-
Self-harm
The course provides an understanding of the impact of substance abuse on mental health.
Participants will learn and understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place.
Finally the course focuses on how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
The course follows a syllabus laid down by Nuco Training Systems and utilises the following training methods:

Successful candidates will be awarded an A4 certificate awarded by First Aid Cornwall following completion of the course.
